The Religious Coalition Against Discrimination (RCAD) is a statewide interfaith network of clergy and lay religious leaders in Maine whose mission is to educate and publicly advocate for the civil and human rights of all people, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons, within our diverse Maine congregations and communities.
The members of the Religious Coalition Against Discrimination (RCAD) and the Faith Team at Mainers United for Marriage want to express our deep thanks to the voters of Maine for affirming community, fidelity, families, and fairness. We especially thank the people of faith across Maine who spoke up with their fellow congregation members, with their families, and with the public, to make the case for this historic vote.
We know that many people of faith did not agree with this vote and are disappointed today. We pray for them, and reach out in reconciliation to meet and talk about how Maine can come back together and move forward to make the new law a success.
Today we give thanks. Tomorrow we go back to work to help Maine carry out its promise for justice and equality.
